EJ Obiena eyes keeping world No. 2 ranking in rest of 2024

Filipino Olympic pole-vaulter EJ Obiena is looking to retain his world ranking when he competes in various sports events in the coming months.

Ranked No. 2 before the Paris Games behind Olympic gold medalist and world record holder Mondo Duplantis, Obiena said he will continue to do his best.

Obiena missed scoring a medal in the recently concluded Olympics, placing 4th behind Duplantis, Sam Kendricks of the US, and Emmanoul Keralis of Greece.

“I’m very grateful to be in such a position as myself. I’ll keep doing my best. The season’s not over. There’s still a few competitions for me to take part in this year and hopefully I’ll be able to retain my world ranking,” Obiena told reporters during his visit to the House of Representatives this morning.

Obiena also thanked everyone who supported him and prayed for him as he competed in the Paris Olympics.

“I want to thank them. I know napuyat sila. I just wanna say thank you so much to everyone,” Obiena said. —NB, GMA Integrated News
