Filipino Olympians to get cash incentives from Marcos — PCO

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. will give cash incentives to two-time Olympic champion Carlos Yulo and other Filipino Olympians in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

''The President will be announcing a cash incentive upon the welcome honors for the Olympians,'' Presidential Communications Office Assistant Secretary Dale de Vera said at a Palace press briefing.

''The President will be announcing the figures tomorrow,'' De Vera added.

Reichel Quiñones, Chief of Presidential Protocol and Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs, said the Office of the President would give presidential citations to all Filipino athletes, including bronze medalists Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio.

''Si Carlos Yulo will be receiving a presidential medal of merit,'' she said.

Yulo and other athletes are expected to arrive in the country at 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 13.

A special program will be held at the Malacañang Palace where President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will present incentives to the athletes in recognition of their ''extraordinary contributions to Philippine sports and their stellar performance during the 2024 Paris Olympics.''

The Philippines emerged as the best Southeast Asian team in the Olympics after closing out Paris 2024 with four medals.

The country wrapped up the Summer Games at the 37th spot with two gold medals from Yulo, who ruled the men's floor exercise and vault, and two bronze medals courtesy of boxers Petecio and Villegas.

The Philippines bested its Southeast Asian neighbors with Indonesia coming in close at 39th spot with similar two gold medals, one each from gymnastics and boxing, and a bronze in the 800m event of athletics. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
