Sam Catantan graduates from Penn State following Paris Olympics stint
After competing on the biggest stage of her career, Sam Catantan closed out another major stage in her life.
The Filipina fencer, who majored in accountancy, shared about her college graduation from the Pennsylvania State University on Sunday, just days following her Olympic debut at Paris 2024.
The 22-year-old fencer is coming off a gallant showing in the Olympic Games, where she shrugged off an injury before eking out a tight 15-13 win against world no. 65 Mariana Pistoia of Brazil in the Table of 64 of the women's individual foil.
She then gave world no. 2 and top-seeded Arianna Errigo of Italy a scare before the latter pulled off a hard-fought 15-12 victory as the Philippine bet bowed out of contention.
Following her Olympics debut, Catantan announced that she'll be taking an indefinite leave after sustaining another ACL injury on the same knee she injured back in the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.
