Carlos Yulo, Aira Villegas to serve as Philippine flag bearers for Paris Olympics closing ceremony
Two-time gold medalist Carlos Yulo and bronze medal winner Aira Villegas will serve as the country's flag bearers for the 2024 Paris Olympics closing ceremony.
Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino confirmed the development to GMA News Online with Yulo and Villegas leading the delegation to conclude the Philippines' campaign at the Summer Games.
Gymnastics ace Yulo made history as the first male Filipino and first gymnast to ever win a gold medal in the Olympics, ruling both the floor exercise and vault finals in two days.
Filipina boxer Villegas, meanwhile, made a splash in her Olympic debut by bagging the bronze medal in the women's 50kg event.
Villegas is the third boxer in this edition to serve as a flag bearer after fellow pugilist Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam carried the duty during the opening ceremony late last month.
The closing ceremony is set on Monday at 3 a.m. (Philippine time) and will be held at the Stade de France.
Joining Yulo and Villegas in the closing rite are Petecio and Paalam as well as weightlifters Elreen Ando, Vanessa Sarno, and John Ceniza and hurdler Lauren Hoffman.
Mitch Martinez, Reynaldo Galido, Donald Abnett, Elmer Pamisa, Ronald Chavez, Louise Gopez, Bethel Solano, Christopher Bureros, Antonio Agustin, and Marcus Manalo will also join the delegates.
