Carlos Yulo tips hat to coach Allen Castañeda for guiding him in Olympic journey

Carlos Yulo said he is grateful to have his coach Allen Castañeda by his side while he was preparing for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Castañeda was Yulo's coach after he parted ways with his former Japanese coach Munehiro Kugimiya.

"Mayroon po akong coach, Filipino coach, si Allen Castañeda. Siya po [ang] tumulong sa akin pagdating sa trainings and competitions," Yulo said in an interview on 24 Oras.

While he admitted that they had to look for facilities and do some adjustments, the Filipino gymnast said these were all part of the journey and he is still grateful for Castañeda's help.

"Nahirapan kami, normal naman po 'yun sa lahat ng atleta [na] nahihirapan. We did our best sa lahat ng aspeto and nag-work hard po talaga kami. Marami kaming pinagtanungan na coaches na strategy nila and pinick up po namin," he said.

For him Castañeda is also part of this victory.

"Grateful po talaga na nakamit namin ang gold medal na kasama ko siya and 'di niya po ako sinukuan."

Yulo won two gold medals in the Summer Games, with one from floor exercise and the other from the vault finals.
