Jake Jarman not closing doors on representing PH, but will stick with Team GB for now

Filipino-British gymnast Jake Jarman instantly became known in the Philippines as he competed alongside Carlos Yulo in the gymnastics events of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Representing Great Britain, Jarman bagged the bronze medal in the floor finals, while the Philippines' Yulo bagged two gold medals from the finals of floor exercise and vault.

"Double Olympic champion in one Olympics as well, I don't know how many people have ever done that before. I'm super proud,"  Jarman said about Yulo in an interview with members of the Philippine Olympic Committee media, including GMA Integrated News' JP Soriano.

The gymnast revealed that he and Yulo were together in a training camp months before the Olympics and he is happy with what the Filipino gymnast has achieved.

"He was struggling with vault a little bit. It's really lovely to see that he has gone from a place where he was struggling with it to be an Olympic champion," Jarman added.

Jarman traces his roots to Cebu, the hometown of her mother, where he also lived when he was very young

Asked if he is also willing to don the Philippine colors, Jarman said it would be 'amazing,' but at least for the next Olympic cycle, he will stick with Team GB.

"For me, competing for the Philippines, it would be amazing, but at the moment, it's hard for me to make a decision like that," he said.

"I've got family back in the UK, but I think for me, if maybe I'm in the end of my career, maybe I'm still at peak performance, who knows, maybe?

"I definitely would not be closing any doors but I think for the next four years, I'll still be definitely with UK."

With his newfound fame in the Philippines, Jarman thanked those who supported him during his Olympic stint.

"I just want to say thank you. To have the support I'm seeing online from the other side of the world is mind-blowing to me. I never thought I'd be in a position like this. I just want to say thank you, it means the world to me."
