Carlos Yulo’s message to mom: 'Napatawad ko na kayo a long time ago'
Filipino gymnast and two-time Olympic champion Carlos Yulo said he had already “forgiven” his mother Angelica despite the rift between them that resurfaced in the middle of his 2024 Paris Olympics campaign.
"May recent interview po kayo na kino-congratulate niyo po ako. Kung genuine po talaga kayo, Ma, maraming salamat po and ina-acknowledge ko po 'yung pagko-congratulate niyo sa akin. Pero nagpa-flashback pa rin talaga yung masasakit niyong sinabi sa akin and hindi niyo pag-wish well sa akin. Tumatatak 'yun sa akin talaga,” Yulo said in a TikTok video posted on Tuesday.
"Ang message ko po sa inyo, Ma, na mag-heal kayo, mag-move on, at napatawad ko na kayo a long time ago po. Pinagpre-pray ko na maging safe kayo palagi at nasa maayos kayong kalagayan lahat diyan.”
[You had a recent interview where you congratulated me. If you are really genuine, Ma, thank you very much and I acknowledge you congratulating me. But I still have flashbacks of the hurtful things you said and your not wishing me well. That has stuck with me… My message to you, Ma, I hope you heal, move on, and I’ve forgiven you a long time ago. I pray you are always safe and you all are doing well there.]
The 24-year-old gymnastics wunderkind spoke in the video about the rift between him and his mother, which includes issues about finances, such as his incentives from the 2022 World Championships, and his mother’s reception of his relationship with girlfriend Chloe San Jose.

Still, the younger Yulo is willing to put it behind him, stressing it's more important to give the spotlight to the other Olympians representing the Philippines in the Summer Games.
"Tigilan na po natin ‘to at i-celebrate na lang po natin ‘yung mga ginawa pong paghihirap at pagsasakripisyo ng bawat atletang Pilipino dito sa Olympics."
[Let’s stop this and instead celebrate the hard work and sacrifice of each Filipino athlete here in the Olympics.]
On Monday, Yulo's mother Angelica confirmed in a 24 Oras report the rift between her and her Olympian son. Despite this, she said she was happy for her son's achievement in Paris.
