Manila to reward Carlos Yulo with P2M, parade
To add to his accumulating rewards from a proud nation, two-time gold winning Paris Olympian Carlos Yulo, is set to receive a P2 million cash reward from the City of Manila.
“Sa iyong pagbalik dito sa lungsod ay aming ibabahagi ang 2 million pesos na gantimpala bilang pagkilala sa iyong angking galing sa gymnastics,” Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna said in a Facebook post.
(Upon your return to the city, we will give you a 2 million peso reward in recognition of your gymnastics prowess.)
Lacuna acknowledged the dedication and hard work displayed by Yulo, a native of Manila, in representing the country.
On Monday, she said the local government is already preparing for a grand parade to celebrate Yulo’s historic feat. It is planned to begin on Leveriza Street in the city’s Malate district where Yulo grew up.
The date and route will be announced once the local government has coordinated with Yulo’s team.
“Lagi mong tatandaan na nandito ang iyong tahanan, ang Lungsod ng Maynila, lagi sa iyong likod, handang tumulong sa iyong paglalakbay tungo sa iyong tagumpay,” said Lacuna.
(Always remember that your home, the City of Manila, will always have your back, prepared to help you on your journey towards success.)
“Ikaw ay bahagi na ng makulay na kasaysayan ng Lungsod ng Maynila at ng buong bansa. Maraming salamat sa pagdala at pagwagayway ng bandila ng Pilipinas sa buong mundo. Mabuhay ka, Caloy!” she added.
(You are part of the colorful history of the City of Manila and the entire country. Thank you very much for bearing and displaying the Philippine Flag around the world. Long live, Caloy!)
Yulo gave the Philippines’ second Olympic gold medal following weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz’s victory in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
But the 24-year-old gymnast did not only give the Philippines just one, but two gold medals in this year’s Summer Games after topping the men’s floor exercise and vault finals.
With his double gold victory, Yulo is expected to receive cash incentives, residential properties from the government and other private institutions. Further, various companies have already pledged incentives to the star athlete.—Sherylin Untalan/RF, GMA Integrated News
