Hurdler John Cabang Tolentino revealed on Tuesday, minutes before his supposed run in the repechage round of the men's 110m hurdles event, that he suffered an injury.
Tolentino was supposed to run in the repechage at 4:50 p.m. for a chance to enter the semifinals.
In an Instagram post, Tolentino apologized for what happened.
"I am so sorry. I'm not gonna be able to run due to an injury," the Philippine hurdler wrote in his post.
"Thanks to all people who supported me. Laban Pilipinas!"
Tolentino made his debut on Sunday as he finished 6th in his heats to be relegated to the repechage.
With the development, Tolentino also wrapped his campaign in the Summer Games.
This also officially ends Philippine athletics' run in Paris as fellow hurdler Lauren Hoffman finished 7th in the repechage, while pole vaulter EJ Obiena finished fourth in the finals.
