Manila prepares hero’s welcome for Carlos Yulo

Manila prepares hero’s welcome for Carlos Yulo

The City of Manila said on Monday that it is already preparing for a grand parade for gymnast Carlos Yulo after his historic double gold victory in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna said that the planned hero’s welcome will begin on Leveriza Street in Malate where Yulo grew up.

“The Manila City Hall is already planning a hero’s parade for Caloy Yulo. We will announce the date and route of the parade once we have coordinated with Caloy’s team,” said Lacuna in a statement.

“Tentatively, we are thinking of starting the parade where it all began—on Leveriza Street in Malate, where Caloy grew up. The parade will pass through areas near Malacañang, the University Belt, and will conclude at Manila City Hall.”

Lacuna added that Yulo will also receive cash incentives, honors, and recognition from the city government.

The local government will also coordinate with the Department of Education and schools in the city  to have their students personally witness the parade.

Yulo gave the Philippines’ second Olympic gold medal following weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz’s victory in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

But the 24-year-old gymnast did not only give the Philippines just one, but two gold medals in this year’s games after topping the men’s floor exercise and vault finals.

With his double gold victory, Yulo is expected to receive cash incentives, and house and lot from the government and other private institutions. Further, various companies have already pledged incentives to the gymnastics sensation.
