John Cabang Tolentino moves to repechage round after 110m hurdles heats in Paris Olympics
John Cabang Tolentino was unable to book an outright semifinals ticket after finishing 6th in his heat in the first round of the men's 110m hurdles at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday at the Stade de France.
The world no. 35 hurdler clocked 13.66 seconds — 32nd overall — to miss the first semifinals bus.
However, the Filipino bet still has a chance to advance as he was relegated to the repechage set for August 6, Tuesday, at 4:50 p.m.
Only the top three athletes in each heat and the next three fastest will have an automatic spot in the semifinals.
Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Grant Holloway was head and shoulders above the rest of the field, registering a time of 13.01 seconds, coming close to the Olympic record of 12.91 held by China's Xiang Liu.
The three-time world champion Holloway topped Heat 5 to emerge as the fastest racer in the opening round and qualified for the semifinals.
Rachid Muratake of Japan, who topped Cabang Tolentino's heat, clocked 13.22 and was second fastest.
Overall, 18 athletes have clinched outright semifinals berths while the rest will slug it out in the repechage round.
