Joanie Delgaco finishes 20th overall in Olympic rowing
Joanie Delgaco finished 20th overall in the women's single sculls event of rowing at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Filipino rower clocked 7:43.83, her fastest in the Olympic campaign, to finish second in Final D which determines ranks 19 to 24.
Delgaco was fourth in the race after the first 500 meters, and fifth after the first kilometer with 3:53.17. However, she powered through and eventually placed second in the next half of the race.
In the heats, Delgaco fell short of a top three finish as she placed fourth with 7:56.26.
However, in the repechage, she finished first in her group with 7:55.00 to book a slot in the quarterfinals.
In the quarters, where she is grouped with Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Emma Twigg of New Zealand, the Filipino rower finished sixth with 7:58.30 to be relegated to semis C/D.
Delgaco clocked 8:00.18 in semis C/D to finish fifth in the said group and be moved to Final D.
Delgaco made history as the first female rower from the Philippines to qualify for the Olympics.
