Jarod Hatch makes debut, Nesthy Petecio aims QF slot as PH continues Olympic run

Swimmer Jarod Hatch will make his Olympic debut, while Nesthy Petecio will aim to inch closer to an Olympic medal as the Philippines continues its campaign in the 2024 Paris Olympics on Friday.

Hatch will commence his run in the Summer Games as he competes in the men's 100m butterfly event with the heats starting at 5 p.m.

The Filipino-American needs to finish in the top 16 out of 40 swimmers in the whole preliminary round to advance to the semifinals. Olympic and world record holder Caeleb Dressel of the United States is among the competitors in the event, although he is on a different heat from Hatch.

Petecio, on the other hand, will go against hometown bet Amina Zidani in the Round of 16 at 2:00 a.m. of August 3.

Zidani is a bronze medalist in the 2023 World Championship featherweight division and a gold medalist in the 2023 European Games for the same weight class.

Before all these, rower Joanie Delgaco will try to end her Olympic campaign on a high note as she competes in the classification Final D at 4:30 p.m.
