Carlos Yulo misses podium in all-around finals of Olympic gymnastics after finishing 12th
Carlos Yulo wound up 12th in the all-around finals of the men's artistic gymnastics to cap off the first of his three medal events in the 2024 Paris Olympics on early Thursday at the Bercy Arena.
The 24-year-old gymnast, who is a three-time all-around gold medalist in the Southeast Asian Games, collected a total of 83.032 points as he missed out on the podium.
Shinnosuke Oka of Japan captured the gold medal after tallying 86.832 while the Chinese duo of Boheng Zhang and Ruoteng Xiao seized the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Yulo had an impressive opening act in the pommel horse but lost his balance and fell down to the mat towards the end of his routine, scoring a dismal 11.900 — more than a point lower from his qualification round performance which saw him nailing 13.006.
However, Yulo was quick to recover, putting up a better showing on the rings worthy of 13.933 points while also garnering 14.766 on his pet event vault to improve his standing.
The Filipino gymnast also impressed on the parallel bars, collecting 14.500 points to make a huge leap to 12th spot after the fourth rotation. He then followed it with 13.600 markers on the horizontal bar.
He closed out his campaign on another of his pet event floor exercise, where he shone with 14.333 points.
Yulo will return on Saturday for the floor exercise final and on Sunday for vault finals.
