Yulo impressed in the floor exercise and scored 14.766 in the qualification round.
He finished second behind Great Britain's Jake Jarman who scored 14.966.
Only the top eight gymnasts, with a maximum of two per country, will advance to the finals.
Floor exercise is Yulo's pet event in gymnastics as he won the gold medal in the 2019 World Championships. He also bagged the gold in floor for three straight years in the Asian Championships from 2022 to 2024, and the 2019 and 2021 Southeast Asian Games.
Back in Tokyo 2020, Yulo missed the finals of the floor exercise, but qualified in the vault finals.
The floor exercise finals will be held on August 3.
Aside from floor exercise, Yulo also advanced to the vault finals and the all-around finals.
