Conor McGregor out of UFC 303, new main event announced

Mixed martial arts fans will have to wait longer for Conor McGregor's comeback after UFC President and CEO Dana White announced that he is out because of an injury.

McGregor, a former two-division UFC world champion, was slated to lock horns with Michael Chandler in the main event of UFC 303 on June 29 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The bout was hounded with skepticism after McGregor did not make it to a pre-fight press conference, and doubts have been made a reality after the fight was officially called off.

"Conor McGregor is out of 303 versus Michael Chandler with an injury," White announced on Instagram.

"The new main event is Alex Pereira, the only person to win both the middleweight and light heavyweight titles in UFC history."

The new main event is now a rematch between the reigning UFC light heavyweight world champion Alex Pereira and ex-world titleholder Jiri Prochazka.

McGregor, 35, has been out of action since 2021 after he suffered a freak leg injury in his trilogy with Dustin Poirier which ended via technical knockout.

Though he remains one of the biggest names in MMA, McGregor has only fought four times in the last six years, losing three of those fights by finish.
