Fil-Am Lauren Hoffman shatters PH national record in 100m hurdles

Filipino-American athletics star Lauren Hoffman shattered the country's 100m hurdles mark for women after clocking in at 13.41 seconds during the Duke Invitational in Durham, North Carolina on Saturday.

The 25-year-old hurdler reset the previous record held by Sheena Atilano 17 years ago in India when she registered a time of 13.65 seconds.

Hoffman, who is among the country's aspirants seeking qualification to the 2024 Paris Olympics, ended up second in the tournament behind American bet Skyla Wilson who had a 13.36-second output.

Hoffman's recent feat came just weeks after she set a new mark in the women's 400m hurdles during the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational in Miami, where she finished after 56.39 seconds to break the previous record of 56.44 set by Robyn Brown.

Hoffman, who ran for Duke University's track and field team in the collegiate ranks, started representing the Philippines in October 2023. She made her national team debut during the 19th Asian Games in China, where she finished fifth in the 400m hurdles with a 57.21-second time.
