Onic slays Bren, Echo to grab share of top spot in MPL PH
Onic Philippines did the unthinkable after cutting two previous world champions down to size in an upset-filled Week 4 of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Philippines Season 13 at the Shooting Gallery Studios in Makati.
The Hedgehogs slayed reigning MPL and M5 titleholder AP. Bren with a 2-0 sweep before pulling off a similar victory against Echo to improve to 7-1 and grab a share of the spot with Bren.
King "K1NGKONG" Perez (Fredrinn) secured a crucial lord steal just before the 13th mark of the opening game against Bren last Saturday, but Onic didn't even need it with the rest of the pack destroying the base with the help of a minion wave.
Gold laner Duane "Kelra" Pillas (Karrie) then unleashed a triple kill to put the finishing kick in Game 2 as Onic eked out a rare 2-0 blowout. Kelra ended up bagging the MVP honors with six kills and one assist against two deaths.
They followed it up with a 2-0 stunner against M4 champion and Season 11 winner Echo to cap off a stellar week.
Onic took advantage of a shorthanded Echo in the 23rd minute of Game 1 on Sunday as midlaner Frince "Super Frince" Ramirez led the charge with a perfect 5/0/8 KDA.
The team then sent Echo crumbling in Game 2 and needed just 13 minutes to finish off the Orcas, who now fell to their back-to-back losses after also bowing to Minana EVOS the day before.
With the twin victories, Onic forged a two-way tie at the top with Bren while Echo slipped to third with a 5-3 card alongside RSG. Minana is at solo fifth with an even 4-4 slate while Blacklist followed suit at 2-6.
Both Omega and TNC hold 1-7 records as they sit at the cellar.
