UP recognizes achievers in first sem sports


The University of the Philippines Office for Athletics and Sports Development recognized achievers from the first semester sports of UAAP Season 86 in its 'UP Fight!' event on Friday at the University Theater in Diliman.

Among the teams recognized were gold medalists men's judo team and women's swimming team, silver medalists women's badminton team, men's track and field team, and men's basketball team, and bronze medalists men's badminton team, women's basketball team, men's chess team, and men's swimming team.

Individual achievers such as Most Valuable Players Jayvee Ferrer (men's judo), Alhryan Labita (men's track and field), and Quendy Fernandez (women's swimming), mythical selections, and rookies of the year were also acknowledged.

The event also sent off athletes who will compete in the second semester sports such as volleyball and football.

As of writing, UP currently sits second in the general championship tally with 172 points behind University of Santo Tomas' 202 points.

"[This is] to cheer on our second semester sports dahil kayo ang mag-uuwi ng general championship sa atin," UP OASD director Bo Perasol said as he challenged the athletes.

'UP Fight!' also gave thanks to those who supported the Diliman teams, and a venue to launch its hosting of Season 87 later this year.
