Elreen Ando captures silver medal in Asian Weightlifting Championships
Weightlifter Elreen Ando snared a podium finish in the 2024 Asian Weightlifting Championship after claiming the silver medal in the women's 59kg category on Monday in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Ando, who represented the country in various international stages like the Olympics and Asian Games, lifted 93 kg in snatch and 120kg in clean and jerk for a total of 213, enough to bag the second place.
Kil Il-Gyong of North Korea impressed with a total lift of 225kg (103 in snatch and 122 in clean and jerk) to take home the gold medal while Natasya Beteyob of Indonesia settled for bronze with a lift of 212kg.
Meanwhile, another Filipina in Rosegie Ramos bagged a bronze medal after the 20-year-old athlete tallied 190kg following an 88 kg-finish in snatch and 102kg-output in the clean and jerk in the 49kg category on Sunday.
North Korea's Ri Song Gum captured the gold with 220kg to ramp up the country's medal haul in the tournament while Japanese bet Rira Suzuki copped the silver with 191kg.
