Japanese mixed martial artist Yuya Wakamatsu has evened the score with Filipino Danny Kingad in the rematch following a unanimous decision nod on the undercard of ONE 165 this Sunday at Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan.
Wakamatsu, who lost to Kingad in 2018, went for an unexpected takedown in the opening seconds of the contest. They exchanged positions while on the mat unleashing shots of their own but it was the Japanese that got the upper hand for landing clean punches.
It was Kingad's turn to score a takedown in round two. They scrambled on the ground exchanging positions once more before getting back on their feet to trade heavy leather.
Wakamatsu looked ahead on the scorecards heading into the third and final round. They scrambled on the ground anew where the Japanese continuously showcased his improved grappling and ground and pound.
All three judges saw the fight for Wakamatsu after three five-minute rounds, earning him a clear-cut unanimous decision victory to improve his MMA record to 17-6 while Kingad fell to 15-4.
