Alex Eala opens 2024 with new career-high WTA ranking

Alex Eala kicked off the new year with career-high ranking in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) as the Filipina teen tennis sensation rose to no. 185 on the first day of 2024.

The 18-year-old netter was previously placed at no. 190, which she achieved in September 2023.

But prior to securing her personal-best rank, Eala, however, made an early exit in the opening round of the WTA Canberra International on Sunday, falling to Celine Naef of Switzerland, 4-6, 5-7.

But the Rafa Nadal Academy graduate is now setting her sights on the Australian Open next week, where she will compete in the qualifying round starting on January 8.
