Carl Jammes Martin ready to adjust against Thai leftie
Carl Jammes Martin will have to bank on experience and ability to adjust after finding out that he is fighting a southpaw in Chaiwat Buatkratjok for the WBO global super bantamweight title on December 18 at Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque.
Carl Jammes, 22-0 with 17 knockouts as a boxer, has sparred with right-handed boxers throughout training camp only to find out that he is facing a lefty. According to his father and trainer Abel, Carl Jammes' in-ring IQ will be key in the upcoming fight.
"We are ready for everything the promotion gives," the elder Martin said in Filipino in an exclusive interview.
"It is what it is so we have to adjust in training. In my observation, it is easy for him to adjust. This is going to be a good fight. We are prepared for a real fight," he added.
The 24-year-old super bantamweight prospect has spent three weeks in Baguio City training side by side with two-division champion Marlon Tapales, who is also deep in preparation for his fight against Japanese star Naoya Inoue.
Martin, however, never got the chance to spar with the southpaw Tapales which would have come in handy if they knew about fighting a lefty next. Regardless of the missing elements in camp, Martin looks to win the fight and propel himself in the world rankings.
"I did not know I was fighting a southpaw, so there will be a little adjustment atop the ring," Carl Jammes said in Filipino. "This is a huge opportunity because my rating will go up in the WBO. I hope to win the championship belt," he added.
