Alex Pereira claims light heavyweight gold with TKO over Jiri Prochazka

Alex Pereira vs Jiri Prochazka UFC

Alex Pereira is a world champion once again following a second-round technical knockout over Jiri Prochazka to claim the vacant UFC light heavyweight title in the main event of UFC 295 earlier today at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Prochazka dictated the tempo in the early going, mixing his strikes with a successful takedown while Pereira waited for an opening. In round two, a confident Prochazka paid the price when he took a right hand that forced him to shoot a double-leg.

With Prochazka hurt, Pereira unleashed a series of unanswered punches to the side of the head and elbows that prompted the referee to halt the contest at the 4:08 mark of the second round.

With only eleven mixed martial arts fights under his belt, Pereira is now a two-division champion with a record of 9-2. The former light heavyweight champion Prochazka, meanwhile, dropped to 29-4-1.
