Chess adds 5 more golds for Philippines in Asian Para Games

Para chess athletes on Saturday added five more gold medals to the Philippines' haul in the 4th Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China.

Henry Lopez (Men's Individual Rapid PI), Darry Bernardo (Men's Individual Rapid VI-B2/B3), and Cheyzer Mendoza (Women's Individual Rapid PI) reigned supreme in their respective events to claim gold medals.

Meanwhile, the trio of Bernardo, Arman Subaste, and Menandro Redor won the gold in the Rapid VI-B2/B3 event, while Lopez, Sander Severino, and Jasper Rom bagged the top prize in the Men's Rapid PI event.

The team of Mendoza, Cheryl Angot, and Jean-lee Nacit, on the other hand, claimed a silver medal in the Women's Team Standard PI event. 

The para chess team's medal rush on Saturday gave the Philippines a total of 19 medals in this year's Asian Para Games with 10 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 5 bronze medals.
