Siargao International Surfing Cup to kick off on October 25

Siargao will once again convene some of the best surfers in the world as it hosts the 27th Siargao International Surfing Cup slated from October 25 to November 1 at the Cloud 9 in General Luna, Surigao del Norte.

This makes it back-to-back years that Siargao will stage the event after it was shelved in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 and typhoon 'Odette,' respectively.

Siargao International Surfing Cup will serve as a qualifier to the World Surf League (WSL) Men's and Women's QS3000 International Surfing Cup as elite athletes from different countries and continents compete in the Philippines' surfing capital.

Last year, Filipino surfer John Mark Tokong reigned supreme in the 26th edition after beating Indonesia's Oney Anwar in the championship round to collect 1,000 points behind his total score of 15.80.

En route to the title, Tokong beat Yuji Nishi of Japan in the quarterfinals before edging his fellow Philippine bet Philmar Alipayo in the semifinals.

In the women's division, a Filipina also emerged victorious with Nilbie Blancada defeating Japanese surfer Anon Matsuoka in the finals with an 11.50-output.
