Carlos Yulo qualifies for Paris Olympics
Carlos Yulo is bound for his second Summer Games stint as the Filipino gymnast has qualified to the 2024 Paris Olympics through the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships being held in Antwerp, Belgium.
The 23-year-old Yulo clinched his Paris ticket after placing as the highest-ranked eligible athlete in his pet event floor exercise.
Yulo, who bannered the Philippines in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, wound up third in the event after collecting 14.600 points behind top finisher Artem Dolgopyat of Israel (15.100) and second placer Fred Richard of USA (14.600).
However, both Dolgopyat and Richard have already qualified to the Paris Games, making Yulo the next best athlete to reach the Olympics.
This makes Yulo the second Filipino athlete to qualify to the Paris Olympics after pole vaulter EJ Obiena.
Earlier, Yulo failed to advance in the men's all-around event.
