Eumir Marcial, Mark Fajardo dominate foes in Round of 32 of Asian Games


Filipino boxers Eumir Marcial and Mark Fajardo flexed their might on the continental stage, emerging victorious in the round of 32 of the 19th Asian Games on Sunday in Hangzhou, China.

Olympian Marcial, who missed out on the 2023 SEA Games last May in Cambodia, drew a unanimous decision victory against Mongolia's Dalai Ganzorig, 5-0, after three dominant rounds while Fajardo knocked out Bhutan's Dorji Wangdi at the 2:21 mark of the first round.

Marcial and Fajardo will advance to the round of 16.

Meanwhile, two other Pinay boxers in Irish Magno and Aira Villegas succumbed to their respective foes to bow out of contention.

Magno absorbed a 0-5 loss to Uzbekistan's Nigina Uktamova while Villegas dropped against Yusegen Oyuntsetseg of Mongolia, 1-3.

Five other boxers will see action in John Marvin, Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam, Aaron Jude Bado, and Marjon Pianar.
