Jiri Prochazka vs Alex Pereira added to UFC 295, Edwards vs Covington headlines UFC 296
UFC 295 just got bigger after UFC CEO Dana White announced that former world champs Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira will fight in the co-main event for the vacant UFC light heavyweight world title on November 11 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
UFC 295, touted as one of the biggest if not the biggest mixed martial arts event in 2023, will be headlined by two-division champion and reigning UFC heavyweight world champion Jon Jones versus former world titleholder Stipe Miocic.
"Prochazka is one of the most exciting fighters on the roster. He had to vacate the title when he sustained the worst shoulder injury in UFC history. Now he is fully recovered and still undefeated in the UFC and he wants his belt back," White announced.
"Pereira is one of the scariest dudes to ever set foot on the octagon. He won the middleweight title just one year after making his UFC debut, now he has moved up to light heavyweight with his sights set on a second world title in a new weight class."
Reigning UFC welterweight world champion Leon Edwards, meanwhile, will defend his title for the second time against former interim champion Colby Covington in the main event of UFC 296 on December 16 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
"The champ has not lost a fight in eight years and is coming off back-to-back wins over the greatest welterweight of all time Kamaru Usman. He is defending his title against Colby Covington, a relentless pressure fighter with unstoppable cardio," White said.
