Philippine Sports Commission chairman Dickie Bachmann on Monday led the rally for the Philippines' athletes bound for the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

Bachmann, along with Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham Tolentino, Philippine Paralympic Committee president Michael Barredo, and Senator Bong Go, led the send-off ceremony.

In his speech, he said the athletes bring to the Asian Games the hopes and dreams of the nation.

“Kayo ang buhay na patunay na ang bawat pangarap ay natutupad sa sipag, dedikasyon, at tiyaga,” Bachmann said.

("You are living proof that every dream can be achieved through hard work, dedication, and perseverance.")

The PSC chair also reminded the Asian Games athletes of the country's support for them.

“The entire Philippines stands beside you, cheering you on every step of the way. Have faith in yourself, trust in your training, and never forget the values that defined our nation: excellence, resilience, and the Filipino spirit.”

“Bring home the gold, but more importantly, bring home the pride and unity that you have fostered among us all,” said Bachmann.

Tolentino, meanwhile, said Team Philippines will try to beat the medal count from the 2018 edition of the Asiad with four golds, two silvers, and 15 bronze medals.

“It will be a big challenge to us. Alam kong kaya natin ‘yan,” Tolentino said.

“I believe we can still do it.”

("It will be a big challenge to us. I know we can achieve it... I believe we can still do it.")

Aside from the government-mandated reward for medalists, Tolentino said the POC will also give P1 million for gold medalists.

Nearly 400 athletes will compete in 40 sports in the Asian Games which will start on September 23.
