EJ Obiena tops ISTAF Berlin outdoor pole vault event

Filipino Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena bounced back on Sunday and ruled the ISTAF Berlin outdoor pole vault event in Germany.

Obiena cleared 5.92 meters to top the said event after missing the podium and finishing last in the Zurich leg of the Diamond League .

Norway's Sondre Guttormsen finished second, while American KC Lightfoot placed third, with both pole vaulters clearing 5.82 meters.

The Asian record holder took to Instagram his reaction about winning the ISTAF outdoor event.

"Finally got this outdoor trophy after so many years of coming up short," Obiena said on his social media post.

In 2022, he finished second in the said tournament and placed fourth in the 2021 edition .

Obiena is the first Filipino to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics .
