EJ Obiena finishes last in Zurich leg of Diamond League
World no. 3 Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena finished last in the Zurich leg of the Wanda Diamond League on late Friday in Switzerland.
Obiena missed both of his two attempts at 5.75 meters before formally bowing out of contention as he failed to clear the next height at 5.85m.
He finished last among 10 competitors as world no. 1 Mondo Duplantis of Sweden easily cleared 6.00 meters and even went on to try to clear 6.23 meters but fell short after three tries. Duplantis, though, still clinched the gold medal.
Sam Kendricks of USA claimed the silver medal with a 5.95 meter-finish while compatriot KC Lightfoot settled for bronze with 5.85m output.
Obiena's 10th place performance came just days after he bagged a silver plum in the World Athletics Championship in Budapest where he vaulted his way past 6.00 meters.
