Swimmer Krystal David sets new Palarong Pambansa record as NCR leads medal tally

Swimmer Krystal David from National Capital Region (NCR) set a new tournament record as she ruled the 2023 Palarong Pambansa elementary girls' 100m breaststroke event on Tuesday at the Marikina Sports Center.

David clocked in one minute and 17.98 seconds to bag the gold medal and help defending overall champion NCR keep its top spot in the medal tally.

Azula Elisa Villanueva of Region 3 claimed the silver with 1:24.79-output while Cathlene Hengania of Region 10 settled for bronze after clocking in 1:25.48.

David shattered the previous meet record of 1:19.35 set by Raissa Gavino in 2018.

The quartet of NCR swimmers Ivo Nikolai Enot, Ivan Nicolas Radovan, Hugh Antonio Parto, and Jalil Sephraim Taguinod also broke a Palaro record after ruling the secondary boys 200m medley relay with a time of 1:49.47.

They shattered the previous record of 1:51.18 achieved by NCR as well five years ago when Vigan hosted the event.

Region 6 claimed the silver with a time of 1:50.15 while Region 11 copped the bronze with 1:51.09

As of August 1, NCR has collected seven gold medals alongside 10 silver and nine bronze across both elementary and secondary divisions. Region 3 and Region 4-A, meanwhile, are currently second and third with 16 and 15 medals.
