Bianca Bustamante gets second career win in Monza
Teen racer Bianca Bustamante clinched her second win in the season and in her career at the third race of Round 5 of F1 Academy in Monza, Italy, Sunday afternoon (Philippine time).
From second on the grid, Bustamante held off her closest competitor, pole sitter Abbi Pulling of Rodin Carlin Racing, after a move on the Curva Grande of Autodromo Nazionale Monza.
“It was a tough race. The P2 in qualifying really helped me. At the start, the main goal was to race cleanly and navigate the first few corners. I tried a few time in T1 for the overtake on Abbi but was able to have a good run on one occasion into T3 and get the move donw. It was a really mega job from the team and the car was amazing," the 18-year-old said on the F1 Academy website post-race.
It proved to be a huge weekend for Bustamante, as she went through the field from P9 on the grid to finish second in the second race Saturday afternoon.
With her win, she now sits sixth in the overall standings in the inaugural season of F1 Academy with 106 points.
Bustamante won the first race of her career after leading from lights to flag in Race 2 in Valencia, Spain last May.
The next round of F1 Academy will happen on July 29-30 in Le Castellet, France.
