POC to hand out incentives to Cambodia SEA Games medalists on Olympic Day
The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) on Friday will celebrate the Olympic Day, which will be highlighted by the ceremonial turnover of incentives prepared for the Filipino athletes who bagged medals in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games last May in Cambodia.
POC president Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino will lead the event held annually to celebrate the founding of the International Olympic Committee by Baron Pierre de Coubertin on June 23, 1894.
The Olympic Day celebration starts at 7 a.m. at the University of the Philippines Track and Field Oval in Diliman, Quezon City.
After the ceremony, checks will be given to the 260 SEAG medalists — from individuals, doubles, and team sports.
Represented by over 840 athletes, the Philippines copped 54 gold medals, the biggest haul in the country's history in the biennial meet, alongside 85 silver and 117 bronze plums to finish fifth in the Cambodia Games.
