EJ Obiena captures bronze in Norway tilt
EJ Obiena stretched his own medal streak as he captured a bronze medal in the Oslo Bislett Games in Norway on Friday morning (Philippine time).
The Filipino pole vault ace cleared 5.81 meters as world no. 1 Armand Duplantis of Sweden reigned supreme in the tourney after registering a 6.01 finish, while American Christopher Nilsen settled for silver with 5.91m.
Obiena skipped 5.41m before it took him only one try each at the 5.61m, 5.71m, and 5.81m heights. After two failed attempts at 5.91m, he successfully vaulted his way on the last jump.
He then tried jumping past 6.01m but failed, settling for a third place finish.
The 27-year-old Obiena was coming off a historic gold medal outing in the Bergen Jump Challenge last Saturday, which allowed him to set a new national and Asian record of 6.00 meters.
