Carlos Yulo earns spot in worlds with Asian Gymnastics Championships all-around silver

Filipino Olympian and gymnast Carlos Yulo claimed his first medal in the 2023 Asian Gymnastics Championships in Singapore on Thursday as he finished with a silver in the men's individual all-around event.

Yulo scored 85.930 to finish second behind Japan's Shinnosuke Oka who scored 86.065. Japanese national Takeru Kitazono placed third with 85.431.

The top eight finish was enough for Yulo to earn a spot in the World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium this September.

Yulo also topped in the qualifiers for floor, vault, and parallel bars, and placed second in the rings to earn a spot in the apparatus finals on Saturday.

He will also compete in the horizontal bar finals, despite originally placing ninth as only two representatives per federation are allowed to qualify. China had three gymnasts who finished in the top eight of the said event, making Yulo the next best athlete to qualify for the apparatus finals.
