Gary Bejino, Cendy Asusano clinch golds anew in Cambodia Para Games


Gary Bejino and Cendy Asusano delivered the ninth and tenth gold medals for the Philippines in the 2023 ASEAN Para Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on Monday.

Paralympian Bejino clocked in two minutes and 38.550 seconds to clinch the top spot in the men's 200m freestyle S6 final and rule the seven-man field in the para swimming competition.

Thailand's Channi Wongnonthaphum settled for silver, while Vietnam's Do Thanh Hai finished third with 2:53.10 and 2:54.23 minutes, respectively.

 

 

Meanwhile, para athletics' Asusano copped the gold mint in the women's javelin throw F54 final with a 13.74m finish. Her compatriot Marites Burce claimed the silver with an output of 11.96m.

 

 

Vietnamese bet Tran Thi Tu settled for bronze with 11.87m.

Both Bejino (400m freestyle) and Asusano (shot put) also won gold medals on Sunday.

The para chess team also delivered a number of medals with Sander Severino and Maria Teresa Bilog finishing second in men's individual rapid chess PI and women's individual rapid chess VI-B2, respectively.

The men's team composed of Severino, Henry Roger Lopez, and Jasper Rom, meanwhile, wound up second in the men's team rapid chess PI contest. Their women counterparts led by Cheryl Angot, Jean-Lee Nacita, and Crystal Citadel Mendoza got the silver.

In para athletics, King James Reyes bagged two silver plums in men's 5000m T46 category and 1500m.

The Philippines currently also has 16 silver medals and 15 bronze medals in the Para Games.
