Sparkle artist Maureen Schrijvers relishes SEA Games silver medal, new national record
National athlete and Sparkle artist Maureen Schrijvers did not only claim a medal in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games on Friday, but her team also broke the national record in the women's 4x400 meter relay.
Schrijvers, along with Jessel Lumapas, Bernalyn Bejoy, and Robyn Brown, logged 3:37.50 minutes to finish second behind the Vietnam team's 3:33.05 to claim the silver medal in the relay event.
The team broke the 30-year national record which was held by athletics legends Lydia de Vega and Elma Muros, along with Perla Balatucan and Rhoda Sinoro, at 3:40.9 minutes.
"Last night, my girls and I made history for the Philippines," Schrijvers wrote in the caption of her post on Saturday.
"A 30 year old record was broken. A record that was made by our Filipino sprint legends - Lydia De Vega and Elma Muros. What an absolute honor it was to wear the Philippine flag on our chest as we ran our hearts out for our country."
Brown replied, "We did that."
Schrijvers and her team added to the Philippines' medal haul from the biennial meet which currently has 31 golds, 57 silvers, and 74 bronze.
Schrijvers recently hosted the NCAA track and field and cheerleading competitions. She also was one of the Sparkle artists who toured the country in 24 Oras segment 'Summer Sparkle Adventure.'
