Women's swimming team, Jerard Jacinto cap Philippines' medal haul on SEA Games opening day


Filipino swimmers capped the first official day of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia on Saturday with two more medals added to the Philippines' haul.

The Philippine women's swimming team of Teia Salvino, Miranda Renner, Xiandi Chua, Jasmine Alkhaldi, finished second in the 4x100 meter freestyle relay after clocking three minutes and 47.96 seconds to claim the silver medal.

 

 

 

 

Earlier, Jerard Jacinto copped a bronze medal in the men's 100 meter backstroke event.

Jacinto, who topped the heats at 56.88 seconds, finished third after clocking 55.99 seconds in the finals of the event. Singapore's Zheng Wen Quah won the gold at 55.22 seconds, while Indonesia's Farrel Armandio Tangkas placed second with 55.80 seconds.

 

 

 

 

Meanwhile, the duo of Janelle Frayna and Shania Mendoza claimed a silver medal in the chess women's double's 60 minutes.

Vovinam athletes also added to the Philippines' haul on Saturday, according to the SEA Games website, as Rhenel Desuyo (men's 55 kg), Jerlyn Kingad (women's 55 kg), and Jovan Medallo (men's sun-moon broadsword form) claimed bronze medals, while the squad of Rogelio Antonio, Dawin Laylo, Paulo Bersamina, and Jan Emmanuel Garcia also bagged a bronze medal from chess ouk chatrang men's quadruples 60-minutes event. Raymund Villaraza and Jayson Cayari also had a bronze medal for men's show while Andrea Divina and Louann Gutierrez also had a bronze in women's duo in jiu jitsu,

The women's football team, the Filipinas, is currently playing against Malaysia.

The Philippines, as of writing, has seven golds, at least nine silvers, and ten bronze medals.
