PH secures second gold as Angel Derla reigns supreme in kun bokator event
The Philippines plucked its second gold in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games after Angel Gwen Derla reigned supreme in a kun bokator event on Thursday at the Chroy Changvar Convention Center in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Derla dominated the women's single bamboo shield form to deliver the second gold after jiu-jitsu's Kaila Napolis copped a similar feat in the women's ne-waza nogi 52kg event earlier in the day.
Derla registered 8.4992 points to finish atop the other four contenders. She also defeated home bet Chanchhorvy Puth, who had 8.4658 points to settle for silver, while Indonesia's Deslya Anggraini copped the bronze medal after an 8.4158 finish.
Meanwhile, Mark James Lacao claimed a silver medal in the men's single bamboo shield form and Rhichain Yosorez had a silver of her own from the women's single bare hands form.
Alyssa Mallari also bagged a bronze from the women's single bokator spirit form.
Kun bokator is a traditional Cambodian martial art that offers 21 gold medals in the biennial event, including nine in combat and 12 in forms techniques.
