Jon Jones contemplates retirement
Two-division UFC world champion Jon Jones is contemplating retirement ahead of his next fight against former UFC heavyweight world champion Stipe Miocic which is expected to take place later this year.
The 35-year-old Jones ended his three-year hiatus last March when he defeated Ciryl Gane via first-round submission to claim the vacant UFC heavyweight world title. Touted as the greatest of all time by some, he says he has nothing more to prove should he get past Miocic.
"I really do not feel like I have much to prove after beating Stipe Miocic. I have been in the game a long time, in fighter years, I am an old guy. I've got some small injuries and I just really want to be around," Jones told Fox Sports Australia.
"I want to be around for my family, I want to be around for my kids, I want to be able to play with my kids, have a good head on my shoulders, and joints that work. So yeah, I can see it coming to an end really soon, and I'm happy with that. I'm really proud of my career."
Jones, however, would be willing to entertain another fight should ex-heavyweight world titleholder Francis Ngannou find his way back to the UFC.
Ngannou, 36, parted ways with the world's premier MMA promotion earlier this year after not coming to terms about renewing his contract.
"I do believe a Francis Ngannou fight would be worth entertaining not retiring. Francis is a former champion, he's pretty damn popular here in America and across the world, he's very well known. It would bring in a lot of money and for that, I would be willing to come back," Jones said.
