Fewer possible medals for Carlos Yulo, but other Filipino gymnasts aiming for gold in Cambodia SEA Games

After bagging seven medals from the 2022 edition of the Southeast Asian Games, there will be fewer medals at stake for Filipino Olympian and gymnast Carlos Yulo in the upcoming biennial meet in Cambodia.

According to Gymnastics Association of the Philippines President Cynthia Carrion, Yulo can only get as many as four medals, if he can win them all, as Cambodia limited gymnasts to compete to just two apparatus finals.

The Filipino Olympian will only compete in the parallel bars, horizontal bar, all-around, and the team event.

"Four is better than two, but not as much as seven," Carrion said in jest.

"Let's hope and pray that everything goes well."

The GAP president said Yulo will come home to the country after his stint in the Cairo leg of the Gymnastics World Cup Series.

"He wants to have camaraderie with them (gymnastics team) and have training with them together," said Carrion.

Despite the limited number of events Yulo can win a medal, other Filipino gymnasts are ready to step up for the Philippine team.

"Our goal is to reach the gold medal," said Juancho Miguel Besana, who will compete in the vault event.

The Cambodia SEA Games will formally open on May 5.
