Carlos Alvarez stops Abasi in ONE Championship debut, Sevilleno loses anew
Carlos Alvarez of Team Lakay made a successful ONE Championship debut following a second-round technical knockout over Reza Abasi this Friday evening at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok.
The 24-year-old Alvarez, now 2-0 as a professional mixed martial artist scored a takedown just ten seconds into the fight.
The Filipino worked to get a submission after throwing knees to the head but was unsuccessful in doing so which led to the bout getting back to their feet
Both fighters landed strikes of their own before getting to the mat once again where Alvarez rained down a barrage of punches from the mount that sent Abasi's mouthpiece flying.
Alvarez looked winded in round two but got the full mount that allowed him to unleash vicious ground and pound that drew a cut on the side of Abasi's left eye.
After a series of unanswered blows, the referee stepped in to halt the contest at the 3:50 mark of round two.
Another Team Lakay representative Adonis Sevilleno also saw action on the undercard against Enkh Orgil of Mongolia.
Sevilleno, the winner of ONE Warrior Series Philippines, was on the receiving end of Orgil’s pressure all night.
In the end, Sevilleno lost the bout by way of unanimous decision dropping his MMA record to 2-4 while Orgil improved to 8-2.
