PSC vows full support for Team Philippines bound for Cambodia SEA Games
The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) vowed to give its full support for Team Philippines, which is set to compete in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games slated from May 5 to 17 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The agency said the support would include funding, supplies, manpower, and logistics as the country looks to regain the overall championship after falling short in the previous edition in Vietnam.
“I just want to support them. If we were fourth place last year, then hopefully we can improve this year," said PSC chief Richard Bachmann.
The Philippines is sending an 840-string delegation to the biennial meet that will compete in 38 disciplines. Leading the country is 2020 Tokyo Olympics silver medalists Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam; world gymnastics ace Carlos Yulo; and world no. 3 pole vaulter EJ Obiena.
Olympic gold medalist and weightlifting champion Hidilyn Diaz will miss the tourney but other representatives in Elreen Ando and Vanessa Sarno will carry the weightlifting team for the country.
“Our national athletes have been working hard and hopefully, all their hard work will pay off,” added Bachmann.
