Colby Covington up next for Leon Edwards
Former UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington is up next for UFC welterweight world champion Leon Edwards according to UFC President Dana White.
Covington, 35, was in London for UFC 286 as a backup fighter in the main event and last saw action in March 2022 when he defeated Jorge Masvidal by way of unanimous decision.
“Colby gets the next shot no matter what happens,” said White.
“I do not know when we will do it but that is the fight that makes sense. Colby came here and cut weight and did everything to be here for this fight.”
Before beating Masvidal, Covington lost twice to ex-UFC welterweight champ Kamaru Usman. Now that the title belongs to Edwards, White says there is no denying Covington of his shot.
“He deserves the fight, not to mention he is the second or third best guy in the world,” White quipped.
