Figure skating duo of Gamez, Korovin makes history as first Filipino and Southeast Asian pair to qualify for World Championships

The figure skating duo of Isabella Gamez and Alexander Korovin made history as they became the first Filipino and Southeast Asian pair to qualify for the 2023 ISU World Figure Skating Championships.

The Philippine Skating Union announced the development on Sunday.

According to the PHSU, the pair clinched a spot in the World Championships after their short program in the Challenge Cup in The Netherlands held last February 23-26.

The pair got a total of 150.01 points in total for the free skate and short program part of the competition.

The last time the Philippines sent a competitor to the World Championships was back in 2017 with Michael Martinez.

The 2023 World Championships will be held in Saitama, Japan from March 20-26.
