Alexander Volkanovski remains UFC's P4P #1 despite failed attempt to become two-division champ

UFC featherweight world champion Alexander Volkanovski is still the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC even after his failed attempt to become a two-division champion.

The 34-year-old Volkanovski is coming off a unanimous decision loss against UFC lightweight world champion Islam Makhachev this past weekend in the main event of UFC 284 in Australia.

The bout was supposed to determine the best fighter in the world between the two, but UFC’s official ranking determined that Volkanovski’s gritty effort was enough to keep him at the top spot.

The bout saw several knockdowns between the no.1 and no. 2 P4P fighters, and in the end, all three judges saw the contest for Makhachev. The scorecards were 48-47, 48-47, and 49-46.

Makhachev remains at #2 followed by welterweight champ Leon Edwards, Kamaru Usman, Israel Adesanya, Alex Pereira, Aljamain Sterling, Charles Oliveira, Brandon Moreno, and Jon Jones.
