EJ Obiena reigns supreme in Orlen Cup
Filipino Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena got another gold in the indoor season as he reigned supreme in the 2023 Orlen Cup in Lodz, Poland early Sunday (Manila time).
Obiena cleared 5.77 meters to top the competition. American Sam Kendricks, local bet Piotr Lisek, and Italian Claudio Michel Stecchi all cleared 5.70 meters, but the first two got the second and third places, respectively.
This is Obiena's second gold after getting one in Perche En Or in France last week.
Obiena said while he is happy about taking home the gold, the Orlen Cup was quite a challenge for him.
"Happy to take the win???? here today in ?ód? Orlen Cup . It was a difficult battle, both physically and mentally," Obiena wrote in his post.
The Asian record holder admitted 'it was not easy at all' to travel from Switzerland to Poland, but he will now focus on rest and recovery as he heads to the Copernicus Cup in Torun.
This is also Obiena's fourth podium finish after placing third in the Mondo Classic where he matched the national record and his own personal best mark.
