EJ Obiena matches national and personal record, finishes third in Mondo Classic

Filipino Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena matched the national and his personal record as he made another podium finish in the 2023 Mondo Classic in Sweden on Friday (Manila time).

Obiena cleared 5.91 meters in three attempts to finish third behind gold medalist Mondo Duplantis (6.10 meters) and second placer American KC Lightfoot (5.91 meters in two attempts).

The Filipino pole vaulter attempted to clear 6.00 and 6.05 meters but failed to do so.

Obiena's performance equaled the record he set in March 2022 in France, where he also cleared 5.91 meters .

The Olympian recently got a silver in Germany to open his campaign in the indoor pole vault season and bagged his first gold in the Perche En Or tournament in France .
